Dean Smith, Ph.D.

Superintendent

Anytown School District

Anytown, WI 5XXXX

Dear Dr. Smith:

Please consider me as an applicant for the high school math opening currently being advertised by Anytown School District . I learned of your opening from the Education Portfolios & Career Services Office at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I will earn my bachelor’s degree in May of this year.

Anytown is an attractive community to me because of the diverse student population, the active arts community, and the community support of the schools as evidenced by the recent passage of the new school building referendum. As the enclosed resume indicates, I am completing a full semester of practice teaching at Madison East High School , grades nine through twelve. The diverse student population at East has required me to incorporate the individual needs of all my students into my lesson planning. Examples of this can be found in my portfolio, under the Teaching & Learning category. In addition to my classroom teaching experience, I have been working with an after school math club composed of students from various grade levels and abilities on a voluntary basis as a coach for the upcoming Math Wizards citywide competition. I am particularly interested in your advertised opening because of the specific teaching responsibilities and the opportunity to advise student organizations.

As your advertisement instructs, I have completed and enclosed the school district’s application. My credential file will be sent from the UW-Madison Education Portfolios & Career Services Office which includes my resume, a copy of my transcripts, and letters of recommendation. I would welcome the opportunity to interview with your selection team and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

                                                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                                                Joseph I. Sample
