On-Campus Interviews

Each year employers come to EPCS to interview prospective teachers. If you have an active Job Search Account with EPCS, you are allowed to sign up for these interviews ahead of those who do not have active files. These interviews provide a great opportunity to make contact with school districts who are particularly interested in hiring UW-Madison graduates. Upcoming interviews at EPCS are listed at the EPCS Home page.

A personal interview is almost always necessary in order to obtain a teaching position. The interview may be held in the employer's office, in our office, or at some other location as agreed upon by the employer and you. Sometimes interviews are held at the national meetings of professional organizations, particularly for those seeking college-level positions. Preparation for interviews is important, and EPCS has many resources available to you:

  • A list of typical questions, both for you and for the employer, is available upon request.
  • Workshops are held every year to help you develop your interviewing skills.
  • Videotapes concerning interviewing available for viewing at EPCS.
  • Interviewing information available on-line

On Campus Interview Procedures
Scheduled at Education Portfolios and Career Services

When interviews are to be held at EPCS, the date of the interview is indicated on the Vacancy List notification you receive in the mail. EPCS also posts all school districts visiting on-campus for interviews on the Interviews page of the EPCS web site. Consultant staff may send out notification/reminder emails as well.

  1. Because interview schedules for public school officials may fill rapidly, you should call or come in to make an appointment on the designated sign-up day.
  2. If you interview at our office, do not apply or have your credential sent to the school beforehand. The employer will be provided with a copy of your credential for the interview. BRING YOUR RESUME.
  3. If you are unable to keep the appointment, please call and cancel it as soon as possible before the interview, so you don't deprive someone on the waiting list of a chance to interview.
  4. After the interview, a follow-up letter of appreciation and continued interest is appropriate. Be sure to note your interviewer's name for your letter.

If you are unable to interview in our office, simply write to the school and apply as usual.
