  The UW-Madison Portfolio Project
The UW-Madison teacher education portfolio system has enabled teacher educators to address accountability and assessment, learning, and program renewal. Student teacher and teacher educator ownership have been built into the portfolios through their ongoing participation in the development of the Portfolio Project.

  Example Portfolios
These portfolios come with students permission. The content was was collected with permission for use in education settings.
 
  • Math Education Portfolio - This portfolio was created by a math education student. One outstanding feature is her use of technology integrated teaching.

  • PDS, Elementary Education Portfolio - This portfolio was written by a student in the school of education PDS (professional development school) program.
    The Madison Professional Development School Partnership (formed in 1997-98) is a partnership in teacher education involving the Madison, Wisconsin Metropolitan School District (MMSD), Madison Teachers' Incorporated (MTI), and the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. http://labweb.education.wisc.edu/pds/

  • English Education Portfolio - The English Education program has leading edge portfolio activites integrated into its methods courses. Just as promenent, however, are the strong elements individual student creativity. This student chose to replace writen section introductions with spoken word videos.

  • Social Studies Portfoio - This student selected video and wrote a refelction as part of her student teaching. This is discussed by Diana Hess and Casey Mehan in Portfoilo Seminar section.   • The Student Role - Students focus on establising goals for their teaching and exploring them. Guided Portfolio Authoring Sessions develop student e-portfolio authoring skills incrementally over the course of their certification program.
    Many use their portfolio as a key component of their job search. Using the portfolio for job search allows them to bring their reflective practise in applications and interviews.

  • Portfolio Development Scaffolding - This presentation at AACTE discussed the UW-Madison frame work for scaffolding student progress in developing their portfolios as a meaningful process over the course of students' program.

  • Guiding Principals - Its guiding principals makes the Portfolio Project what it is. The basic tenets that govern all phases of development and implementation keep the project on course.

  • Video Handout - This guides provides detailed information about the process of developing content for a portfolio composition on teaching video.

  • Portfolio Authoring Sessions - Portfolio Authoring Sessions are based on supervisor/instructor class syllabi, activities and assignments. EPCS staff work with instructors and supervisors to design the session which focused on class goals.
